Among the guests, the cold-blooded Man in Black approached the center of the mysterious maze, an achievement that he hoped might herald an upending of the park’s unnatural order.
WESTWORLD SEASON 1 EPISODE 1 FULL EPISODE INSTALL
Ford has every reason to install his own Theresa Cullen in her place-and this one would presumably prove to be a good deal more malleable.Heading into last night’s season finale of “Westworld,” the show’s android hosts were poised to finally, as our President-elect might put it, throw off their shackles: Maeve was plotting an escape into the human world, and Dolores was moving closer to the core of her own memories and identity. The real Theresa Cullen may be dead, but right now Dr. Ford’s secret lair-and the camera briefly refocuses on his host-creating machine, busily whirring away. As the episode ends, Theresa's limp body rests slumped against the wall of Dr. There's no clear evidence for it, but I have a guess. So what is his plan to cover up the murder? He wouldn't engineer such an elaborate murder without being absolutely sure that the trail could never lead back to him. She's extremely important to the basic operation of Westworld, and unlike Elsie, it's hard to imagine her disappearing for more than a few hours without serious questions being raised about her whereabouts. Ford is secretly loading the Delos board with his own creations, he can play a longer game than anyone could imagine, crafting every micro-conflict-even an apparent enemy, seeking to "force him out," who is actually under his direct control-to suit his own grander purposes.Īnd then there's the question of Theresa Cullen. Ford repeats one of her lines from earlier in the episode just moments before he orders Bernard to kill Theresa: "The situation demands a blood sacrifice." If Dr. For the executive of the Delos Corporation board, Charlotte is suspiciously young, and Dr. If there is a second robot under our noses, I suspect it's Charlotte Hale, who (wittingly or unwittingly) sets up Theresa's death at the end of the episode by ordering her to move against Dr. Ford has quietly maintained this host-manufacturing lab for so many years, how many other secret robots are running around the park doing his bidding? Ford's repeated boasts about knowing "every blade of grass" in Westworld, is he really unaware of the underground revolution happening right under his nose, as both Dolores and Maeve move far beyond what we've been told is the absolute boundary of their capacity? And perhaps most of all: If Dr. Ford clearly has some kind of grander plan in mind-but what is it? Does it have any connection to whatever happened to Elsie last week? And given Dr. This is the kind of twist that only raises more questions.
Now, I suppose, we'll really find out if the hosts really do retain some memory of the things they do before their memories are wiped clean again. Bernard, unable to resist, does exactly what Dr. Instead, he orders Bernard to kill her, ensuring that her final memory will be being beaten to death by a man with whom she was intimate just days earlier. He could have brought a gun, or used one of the several other hosts we know reside in his secret hideaway.
Ford casually dispatches her in another flourish that serves to illustrate the depths of his cruelty. And while Theresa makes a valiant effort to cast herself as the one who still has all the power in the situation, Dr. Ford's orders, though he didn't remember that when he actually did it. She was doomed the moment Bernard led her into the basement-on Dr.
